Adam finds that people are getting what they deserve when it comes to pirating music. For example, I work on many parents' computers at their homes. They usually call me because their computers have grinded to a screaching halt or have multiple viruses. Often, the reason for their computer woes can be traced back to a teenager who has downloaded a P2P application such as Kazaa or Limewire. The teenager is using this software to connect to other computers and download free music. The problem is that these P2P applications are riddled with viruses, spyware, and other malware that infects the user's computer.

Amy's concern is about all the workbooks that people copy from - am I really guilty? Yes, I guess I am.

Anne is curious about the practice at her new school - and wonders how to raise the discussion among both students and faculty.

Vladi and Jane think the worry over plagiarizing gets excessive after a while...

Wednesday Morning Early

Day Two in the Morning

We have spent the morning learning about smart boards - Amy had never seen one, Anne had heard of them and envied the owners, and Adam had seen them before, was curious as to the educational uses, and learned some.

We are wondering about the contrast between "teacher-centered" and "student-centered" classrooms, and wonder whether the smartboard tends to move the teaching to the teacher. Amy has only 6-12 students, using manipulatives and centering the work on students. When she does presentations, she is on the floor with the kids. She wonders how the smartboard would enhance her instruction.

We think Steve should donate the smartboard to Wooster when he finishes!

Monday Late Morning Assignment

The numbers are disconcerting. We will try to remember kilo, mega, giga, tera in order to figure out which is which. We will think NOT in terms of "bytes" but in terms of "thousands." So to practice: there are a thousand bytes in a Kilo, a thousand K's in a meg, a thousand megs in a giga, and a thousand gigs in a tera. (This is only true for Amy and Anne!)
